Teacher's Newsletter - Winter 2006
Happy Chinese New Year. It's time for Taipei to become blanketed in clouds and soaked with rain. Yeah, it's winter. Of course, if you're lucky enough to be in Southern Taiwan, it makes no difference to you. Have a laugh at all of us stuck-up Taipei-ers on your way to the beach!
Thanks to all our teachers for making MYU the success that it is today. We have over 600 teachers who actively use the site. That's quite the milestone for us. Thanks for helping make it happen.
FOR NEW TEACHERS
If you're new to MYU or if you don't know, the reason that we call each teacher is to verify that the teacher actually made the profile. You may be surprised to find out how many times agents try to make profiles for unwitting teachers in the hopes of catching a commission. We don't allow this to happen on MYU.
You may also wonder why we charge a fee to students; why not just open up the whole site for free? Simple: we're greedy, people! Just kidding. The real reason is that we want to make every contact count. We want all your leads to be hot. We don't want you to be swamped by calls for language exchanges, dates, or what-have-you, but instead, just serious students who want to pay for your lessons. Our fee is just a little hoop that the students have to jump through to prove that they are worth your trouble. This goes for schools, too.
NEW FEATURES
Feedback is fully functional now. Your profile displays positive feedback made by students, their parents, or schools. A silver star means that your lessons were rated "good," a gold star means that your lessons were rated "excellent." You may also have a compliment or two! The feedback is monitored by us and only positive feedback is visible to users of the site.
So...to help make the MYU service better for everyone (and especially to get you more students), you might want to encourage your students or their parents to come back to the site to post feedback about you. It's easy for them to do this: all they have to do is log in!
Another new feature is that we've modified the e-mails that you get from us telling you that a student has viewed your contact information. Each heads-up e-mail now contains the student's contact information, if they have chosen to send it to you. We hope this will make it easier to get in touch with interested students.
TELL YOUR FRIENDS
Tell all your friends about us! We have many students who leave the site without meeting a teacher. Many times they leave because there are no teachers registered in their neighbourhood. So, if you have some friends who are looking for privates, tell them about us!
Happy Teaching!
